A few weeks ago, my son asked if he could tryout for water polo. Water Polo??? What is it. I asked? I did some research, it looked hard, aggressive and exhausting. I thought, well, he has never asked to tryout for anything I might as well give it a look. Its the first team in the area. Water polo is not a big sport here on the East coast.
Looking back those first few weeks, I am amazed at the child I see in the water. My son works really hard for everything. He has a developmental dyspraxia. He gets special help in school and has problems with coordination making riding a bike and tying his shoes very very difficult.
In he pool, he is focused, he treads water using the eggbeater kick in 8 ft of water for an hour or so. He is really swimming. He never gives up. The coach Mommo Ivetic has a real love of the sport and is so patient with the kids and takes the time to explain each movement and give the kids guidance.
I am just amazed at how my son is doing.
For all the moms out there, sometimes you have to let your kids try something, no matter wacky it sounds at the moment.
